New courses up at Muse!
Writing from the Unconscious; Lyric Essay; drop-in generative writing
Hello!
I wanted to point you toward a couple new courses up at Muse:
Writing from the Unconscious
I’m excited to announce this new Zoom-based workshop, coming in August. Together we will write using inspiration from tarot, dreams, guided meditations, and “automatic writing.” There will be two sessions, Saturday August 3rd and August 10th, 1:30-3PM Eastern, and the sessions can be taken separately or together. There will be a limit of 15 participants.
Below are the subtopics for each session:
Session 1// August 3rd: Tarot, oracles, and parts of self
Session 2// August 10th: Dreams and guided meditation
More information can be found on the Muse website.
Writing the Lyric Essay
Later this summer, I will offer a guided version of my Lyric Essay course. I likely won’t offer this one again until next year, so please join us if you’re interested! The five-week class opens July 29th. Early bird price of $250 through July 1st, with payment plans available.
Students go through the course on their own schedule on the Wet Ink platform online, interacting with the instructor and other students in writing.
Each week provides:
discussions of assigned readings and other general writing topics with peers
written lectures and a selection of readings
Some weeks also include:
the opportunity to submit two essays of 1000 and 2500 words each for instructor and peer comments
additional optional writing exercises
(You don’t need to be present at any specific times/dates, though there will be the one optional Zoom meeting, which I’ll hold on August 7th, 7-8 pm Eastern.)
More information about courses at Muse can be found here. I’ll list a few more opportunities for working with me below.
I hope your June has been going well. Happy solstice this week!
All my best,
Joanna

What students are saying about my teaching:
Thank you also for all you have done for us this course. It has really been a good experience for me, and it's helping me find my voice and add those lyric elements to it, which I really love. You've been a great teacher, and this has been such a good class. I'm really so glad that I got to participate -- what a blessing! Thank you for everything!
This was an inspiring course!
You are one of the best instructors I've encountered on this platform. Thanks so much!
Thank you so much for your thoughtful feedback on my pieces, Joanna. And thank you for including other pieces I may want to look into that came to mind for you as you were reading— this is so helpful and gives me even more fuel to move forward.
This class has been brilliant for me and I really appreciate all that you have given away through it.
Thank you again for such a wonderful class. I enjoyed it so much and I really got a lot of joy out of the readings/discussions. It was helpful for me also to put a name to some things I was already feeling and seeing in my writing and to explore other genres. These lessons all ignited something in me. It was good to be in that generative space again and to feel like I had a community of readers.
Also, I really liked the way you designed and curated this course. There was a simplicity to it that was inviting. But I found it to be expansive, thorough and very much engaging. Thanks also for offering such a warm environment and for all your attention throughout the course. It really was a pleasure.
Thank you for the readings and your insightful and sequential structure of this class. You exposed us to a diverse and talented group of writers. I am so grateful for your expertise in creating this course. Offering the zip file is so generous of you. Many thanks!
I really enjoyed this class, Joanna. Your prompts were very generative for me, and felt very much in line with where my thoughts tend to ramble. If you have a mailing list, please put me on it! I'd happily sign up for a class similar to this one. Thank you!
Thank you again for your guidance during this course, Joanna. I really think you're an amazing teacher, and this has been such a great course. I loved it. I'm really grateful for this experience!
These past few classes with you have been helpful to me. Thank you for the time and energy you put to them. You're really, really good at what you do, and I hope you know that. Thank you for all your great support.
